Does Up-To-Date Procedures

“Dr Setzen preformed a balloon nasal surgery in his office which was greatly convenient to open the blocked nasal passages. It was a much better situation than going to the hospital. It was not painful and well tolerated. It has been 3 months since the procedure and it seems to be a success. There is no scaring either.”

Best ENT on LI … Maybe in NY!

“I’ve been a patient since Dr. Setzen corrected my deviated septum in 2004. He is a wonderful doctor … I’ve never breathed or slept better – I visit him twice a year now unless I get sick and I always feel so much better after he treats me. I don’t have sinus headaches and rarely get sinus infections since being his patient. He is a great doctor with a wonderful “bedside manner.” He also tells you what he is doing and makes you feel comfortable if you should have any anxiety. I live in suffolk and drive all the way to his office in Great Neck because he is THAT good! Definitely the best ENT specialist/expert around.”

Unsightly Bump and Severely Deviated Septum Fixed with Surgery

“I have had breathing trouble for as long as I can remember, but what really pushed to be to finally go through with my sinus surgery was the fact that as I got older, a bone in my nose started to protrude out further and further (to the point that Dr. Setzen was convinced I must’ve broken it at some point during childhood). My breathing problems continued to worsen, affecting my ability to fall/stay asleep at night. My mom had had a similar surgery 23 years ago done by Dr. Setzen and she has always raved about how he changed her life, so when the time came to book my surgery I knew there was no one better that him to do my surgery as well. It’s been a few months since my surgery last fall, and I couldn’t be happier that I went through with it. Dr. Setzen eased my fears along the way, and had amazing bedside manner after the fact. I would highly recommend him to anyone with sinus problems, his expertise and way with patients is unmatched!”

Successful Orbital Decompression Surgery

“Doctor Setzen played a major part in the two successful Orbital Decompression surgeries I had over the past two years. If you suffer from exophthalmos due to thyroid eye disease there is help out there and Doctor Setzen is where I would start. This surgery will change your life.”

Nasal Diformity / Allergies / Sinusitus

“Let me start by saying there are no words to express my gratitude for what Dr. Setzen has done for me. I am a teen who has always suffered from severe nasal congestion to the point I could no longer sleep. I went to what I thought was a top doctor who had done two surgeries on my nose within a six months. When I didn’t get any relief, I became desperate and in search for another doctor. Upon visiting Dr. Setzen he immediately diagnosed me with a nasal valve collapse. After a successful surgery by Dr. Setzen, I am now symptom free. I will be forever grateful for his expertise and most of all his compassion. Love you Dr. Setzen and staff. You deserve a perfect 10!”

Deviated Septum, Rhinoplasty

“My experience might have been different from others in the sense that I was born with a broken nose and severely deviated septum. From the age of 10 years old is when I really started to notice my nose and that I was very self conscious of it. Because I was born with a severely deviated septum I did not know what it really felt like to breathe out of my nose. I could slightly breathe out of one of my nostrils but that was it. Dr. Setzen changed my life. Surprisingly I was not scared to have this surgery because I had wanted it for a very long time. Dr. Setzen made me feel very comfortable because of how informed I was about everything. The surgery was an in and out procedure. I was in there for about 4 hours because of how severe my nose was; I was told by Dr. Setzen that my nose was in the top 10 worst noses he had ever seen. At first that did frighten me but he assured me that he was confident in his abilities and that I had no reason to worry. I honestly did not feel any pain after except for headaches and a little pressure in my forehead from the splints inside my nose (due to the corrective surgery for my previously broken nose). Taking out the packing, stitches and splints was a little painful but removed very fast. Also, when you go for checkups scabs inside your nose are removed; I wouldn’t say it is painful it is more of an uncomfortable feeling, but yet again over very fast. Once all the packing and splints came off and I took my first breath it was a life changing experience that I will never forget. It sounds silly but its true! This surgery improved my health and my life, I was very happy with the outer and inner results. I give great thanks and recommendations to Dr. Setzen and his team!”

LIFE THREATENING SINUSITUS TURNED AROUND WITH SURGERY

“Approximately 26 years ago I was operated on by Dr. Michael Setzen. From the official records my diagnosis was: “Pathology” – in the form of a right frontal sinus mucocele which had eroded the posterior wall of the frontal sinus with involvement of the brain coverings. This was an extremely “life threatening” sinus condition which necessitated surgery that lasted for approximately “15 hours”. Since I had severe bronchial asthmatic, Dr. Setzen enlisted the skills of several specialists during the operation. Due to the severity of this case, Dr. Setzen used a neurosurgeon, an opthamologist, and a pulmonary specialist. These specialists were there to assist in case there were unforeseen complications after the sinus area was exposed. This showed me what a “thorough and careful” surgeon Dr. Setzen was, so as to have things in place if the need should arise. When the surgery was successfully completed, Dr. Setzen told me that the infection was so close to the brain that within a week, I would have been dead. I thank GOD and Dr. Setzen’s skills for saving my life. The results were miraculous. I am now “73 years old” and in wonderful health and the previous condition which caused this “life threatening” infection has NEVER returned. Dr. Michael Setzen is also a plastic surgeon and my facial scarring is to a minimum. ******I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. MICHAEL SETZEN. HIS SURGICAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE OF THE HIGHEST CALIBER. ****”

Highly Recommend – Excellent Physician with a Remarkable Bedside Manner

“I am a 27 year old female that has had recurring tonsillitis since I was in high school. I even had a severe abscess which I needed to have drained in the ER since it obstructed my breathing. I went to an ENT several years ago who said that my tonsillitis was viral, there was really nothing to do but ‘wait it out’, and that if it happened again I would most likely need a tonsillectomy. From then until recently, I’ve had tonsillitis several times, but not recurring so frequently that I thought I would need to see a doctor. I also had facial pain, snoring, and obstructed breathing from my nose but never noticed or thought anything of it. I recently moved to Great Neck and was getting recurring episodes of tonsillitis. I decided to visit Dr. Setzen although I was reluctant since I thought I already knew what he was going to tell me. I’ve never been more wrong and I am so thankful I got a second opinion from Dr. Setzen. First of all, Dr. Setzen went beyond what any ENT I’ve seen before has done in response to my tonsillitis. He used a pediatric nasal endoscope (my nose is small), which couldn’t fit since I had a severely deviated septum. On my follow-up visit, Dr. Setzen performed a CT Scan in his office, just to be extra thorough. The CT Scan revealed a cyst the size of an apricot in my right maxillary sinus and another smaller cyst in my left maxillary sinus. The cyst was large enough to potentially impede on my eye causing vision problems and a collapsing of the orbital floor. Dr. Setzen took the time to explain my situation and what my options were going forward. He was very knowledgeable about his specialty, but made it easy for me to understand and answered all of my questions. He has an amazing bedside manner and made me feel confident going into surgery. I also appreciated his consistent positive attitude, especially during my recovery. In one surgery I had a tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, endoscopic sinus surgery to remove the cysts, a turbinectomy to open my sinus passageways, and a septoplasty to straighten my deviated septum. My surgery experience was very positive, with minimal bleeding and no bruising. I also had no bleeding from my tonsillectomy, which is something I heard horror stories about from friends. His staff is amazing and called to follow-up after my surgery. They also genuinely care about how I was doing and really put the patient’s needs first. It was great to feel like I had a real ‘team’ on my side as I was going into several surgeries and recovering. I also am out of his insurance plan and he was very reasonable and made sure that I got the treatment I needed. I am now a month post-surgery and am feeling so much better. My quality of life has greatly improved. I really learned the value of a second opinion and not ignoring your symptoms and wished that I had went to Dr. Setzen years ago. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Setzen based on my personal experience under his care.”

Malformed Septum, Nasal and Sinus Reconstuction

“My review,” where should I start” ? I guess at the beginning is the best place, I’m a 59yr old man that had a history of poor breathing. My wife would tell me that I wake up suddenly gasping for breath, I self diagnosed my problem as sleep Apnea . I made an appointment with my wife’s Ear, Nose Throat Physician . He told us that the CT SCAN Revealed that my septum had been broken is four spots and my nasal and sinus passage ways were nearly closed off. I asked him,” If you fix my septum and sinuses would it straighten my nose” the answer was NO that would have to be someone else. After doing some research, that someone else is Dr. Michael Setzen he not only repaired all of my nasal problems BUT straightened and re-aligned my nose. No matter what course of action you decide to take Dr. Mike makes you feel comfortable, he is very easy to talk too. His staff is the BEST they called and followed up on my recovery every day of the first week after the surgery. I don’t no of any other 59yr old men with the same nasal problems as me ,But if anyone asks,” Hey what is different about you” I tell’em I had my nose fixed by Dr. Setzen. Don’t wait 40yrs like I did to have your breathing problems seen too. Do it while your young and enjoy aroma of spring and your Grand Ma’s home cooking.”
