Highly Recommend - Excellent Physician with a Remarkable Bedside Manner I am a 27 year old female that has had recurring tonsillitis since I was in high school. I even had a severe abscess which I needed to have drained in the ER since it obstructed my breathing. I went to an ENT several years ago who said that my tonsillitis was viral, there was really nothing to do but 'wait it out', and that if it happened again I would most likely need a tonsillectomy. From then until recently, I've had tonsillitis several times, but not recurring so frequently that I thought I would need to see a doctor. I also had facial pain, snoring, and obstructed breathing from my nose but never noticed or thought anything of it. I recently moved to Great Neck and was getting recurring episodes of tonsillitis. I decided to visit Dr. Setzen although I was reluctant since I thought I already knew what he was going to tell me. I've never been more wrong and I am so thankful I got a second opinion from Dr. Setzen. First of all, Dr. Setzen went beyond what any ENT I've seen before has done in response to my tonsillitis. He used a pediatric nasal endoscope (my nose is small), which couldn't fit since I had a severely deviated septum. On my follow-up visit, Dr. Setzen performed a CT Scan in his office, just to be extra thorough. The CT Scan revealed a cyst the size of an apricot in my right maxillary sinus and another smaller cyst in my left maxillary sinus. The cyst was large enough to potentially impede on my eye causing vision problems and a collapsing of the orbital floor. Dr. Setzen took the time to explain my situation and what my options were going forward. He was very knowledgeable about his specialty, but made it easy for me to understand and answered all of my questions. He has an amazing bedside manner and made me feel confident going into surgery. I also appreciated his consistent positive attitude, especially during my recovery. In one surgery I had a tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, endoscopic sinus surgery to remove the cysts, a turbinectomy to open my sinus passageways, and a septoplasty to straighten my deviated septum. My surgery experience was very positive, with minimal bleeding and no bruising. I also had no bleeding from my tonsillectomy, which is something I heard horror stories about from friends. His staff is amazing and called to follow-up after my surgery. They also genuinely care about how I was doing and really put the patient's needs first. It was great to feel like I had a real 'team' on my side as I was going into several surgeries and recovering. I also am out of his insurance plan and he was very reasonable and made sure that I got the treatment I needed. I am now a month post-surgery and am feeling so much better. My quality of life has greatly improved. I really learned the value of a second opinion and not ignoring your symptoms and wished that I had went to Dr. Setzen years ago. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Setzen based on my personal experience under his care.

Malformed Septum, Nasal and Sinus Reconstuction My review," where should I start" ? I guess at the beginning is the best place, I'm a 59yr old man that had a history of poor breathing. My wife would tell me that I wake up suddenly gasping for breath, I self diagnosed my problem as sleep Apnea . I made an appointment with my wife's Ear, Nose Throat Physician . He told us that the CT SCAN Revealed that my septum had been broken is four spots and my nasal and sinus passage ways were nearly closed off. I asked him," If you fix my septum and sinuses would it straighten my nose" the answer was NO that would have to be someone else. After doing some research, that someone else is Dr. Michael Setzen he not only repaired all of my nasal problems BUT straightened and re-aligned my nose. No matter what course of action you decide to take Dr. Mike makes you feel comfortable, he is very easy to talk too. His staff is the BEST they called and followed up on my recovery every day of the first week after the surgery. I don't no of any other 59yr old men with the same nasal problems as me ,But if anyone asks," Hey what is different about you" I tell'em I had my nose fixed by Dr. Setzen. Don't wait 40yrs like I did to have your breathing problems seen too. Do it while your young and enjoy aroma of spring and your Grand Ma's home cooking.

Review of my experience under Dr. Setzen For years I suffered with severe sinus problems. The middle of last year I went to see Dr. Setzen. After his thorough examination he recommended that I have Balloon surgery on my sinuses. I felt so comfortable with trust for him I decided to have the surgery done. Which by the way, it was done in his office. Dr. Setzen and his staff were very caring especially because I was terrified! I am 67 years old and can finally breath without a problem. The surgery went very well and I am very thankful to Dr. Setzen.

Dr. Setzen and his staff are very professional and he is extremely knowledgeable in his medical specialty. He performed sinus surgery on me and also corrected my deviated septum and has vastly improved my quality of life. I also have middle ear problems which he has been able to successfully treat.

This quote perfectly applies to Dr. Setzen who is an expert in his field and who improved the quality of my life by putting an end to my endless sinus headaches. Half of my life was marked by reoccurring operations until I met Dr. Setzen who performed only one surgery about 10 years ago. Since then all my sinus problems went away and I only see him occasionally for what doctor calls a "maintenance" visit. I am really grateful to Dr. Setzen.

Truly Wonderful and Brilliant Physician! I came to Dr. Setzen with a horribly deviated septum (I found this out after my first visit) and continuous sinus infections. As I made my first appointment, I knew this would be a positive experience because his staff was willing to work with someone who did not have the best health insurance. Whenever I came to see him, he always had a smile on his face and patiently answered all of my questions. Eventually, he explained to me that surgery would be my best option. After careful consideration and a lot of questions, I too agreed that my deviated septum needed to be repaired. In addition, Dr. Setzen offered to shave down the slight bump I had on my nose. I was very nervous having never had cosmetic surgery before; however, he spoke to me at length and explained in depth the procedure to me. Occasionally, I would call up his office with questions and they put me directly through to him without hesitation. Any apprehension I had about the procedure was gone as soon as I saw the results. I don't mean just the outside, but I could finally breathe through my nose. I never wanted to have a "perfect nose." I just wanted to have the bump shaved down (I developed a bump on my nose as a child when I walked into a table). In short, I wanted minimal cosmetic work performed on my nose. During one of the post surgical appointments, the brace came off my nose and for the first time in a long time, I smiled. I mean, I truly smiled. The bump on my nose was gone, but more importantly, I felt good about my choice and myself. He is a truly remarkable and sympathetic physician and a wonderful human being. Nasal Pressure and Headaches Resolved by Surgery I love Dr. Setzen! I had a an extensive sinus surgery and was back up to myself in just a matter of days! I am confident that my headaches, sinus pressure and sinus infections will be a think of the past.

Sleeping Better and No Sinus Infections After Surgery Had chronic sinusitis, couldn't sleep, constantly on medicine. Surgery removed a hundred polyps. Post surgery, no congestion, sleep better than I have in I had chronic sinusitis for over 5 years. I couldn't sleep and was constantly on medicine (mostly nasal spray, steroids and antibiotics. I was literally suffering. I went to see Dr. Setzen, to understand my options. His office was clean and he and his staff are friendly and courteous. Dr. Setzen used some advanced imaging techniques to show me exactly what the problems were and how they could be remedied through surgery. During the surgery he removed over 100 polyps from my sinuses. Immediately after surgery Dr. Setzen followed up with me in his office to make sure I was recovering well. He removed all of the surgical packing about 4 days later and I took my first breathe which was felt like being born again. I had no idea I was supposed to be getting that much oxygen all along! After six months I have had no congestion, no infections, and no negative outcomes from the surgery. It was one of the best decisions I have made and Dr. Setzen did an amazing job.

Dr. Setzen performed Sinus Surgery on me in 2013. My septum was almost completely sealed. After surgery, I'm breathing easy, I'm no longer addicted to nasal sprays, and even allergies and cold symptoms are greatly reduced. Should have done this years ago. Dr. Setzen was true to his word about being able to resolve my problem with his excellent skill.

Relief from Sinusitis, Headaches and a Nicer Nose Too! Its simple. I no longer have the horrible pain of repeated sinus infections and the side effects of always being on antibiotics for those infections. Headaches almost completely gone. While I was at it, got a prettier nose.
