Sinus Surgery and Throat Surgery I had a sort of double surgery. To cure my sleep apnea, I had my severe deviated septum fixed and my uvula removed. He also removed a number of cysts from my sinuses. Many surgeons tend to rush the patients into surgery. Dr. Setzen is a physician first and uses surgery as part of the plan to take care of his patients. He does not rush into surgery. It took me 6 years to finally decide that surgery was the last resort. I am very happy with the results of the surgery. I now breath through my nose at night. I wake up refreshed and do not break my sleep throughout the night. I am not drowsy anymore during the day. Also, my sleep apnea is gone. As far as the process itself, Dr. Setzen told me what to expect. I basically healed by the book and in 10 days, was healed completely. The nose caused very little pain and I was off the main pain killers within only a few days. Dr. Setzen's follow up after the surgery was complete and proved that this was the right thing to do for my case. I have known Dr. Setzen for over 27 years and have trusted him to myself and my whole family. His knowledge, expertise and friendly demeanor leads me to say that I would continue seeing Dr. Setzen and would highly recommend him to all my friends and family.

Life changing Surgery...Deviated septum repair/Turbinate surgery The reason I made the choice to have this surgery was due to a visit with Dr. Setzen 1 1/2 years ago. I scheduled this appointment because of a sharp pain I felt in my sinuses while I was flying. Upon examination my deviated septum was completely blocking one nostril, my sinuses where completely filled with fluid, and I had over 100 polyps. Dr Setzen's office was completely equipped to take an MRI on premise which allowed me to receive all the information I needed from one visit to decide and have the surgery. Before going in for surgery I have heard from numerous people how they would not recommend it because they did not see a change since their surgery. Actually, everyone I spoke to that had this surgery said not to. However, my experience with Dr. Setzen made me confident enough to go through with it. After my surgery, recovery was a bit painful at times (which was expected) but very quick. I was back working within a week. Dr. Setzen did not pack my nose with loads of gauze which helped when visiting him the day after surgery. I did not bruise at all which was a pleasant surprise. As uncomfortable as the office visits following the surgery were, Dr. Setzen did what he had to do quickly and effectively as to not create any unnecessary pain. To this day my allergies are gone and my asthma is completely under control with limited medication. I would definitely recommend this surgery and especially Dr. Setzen.

After Septoplasty, breathing better, chronic congestion gone I struggled with multiple sinus infections per year, pressure, sinus headaches, chronic sinusitis, congestion all year round, bad post nasal drip and sports induced asthma, all with no relief from any oral or spray medication, and I would highly recommend Dr. Setzen after having surgery done. There were no black eyes and I was able to return to rigorous activities after 10 days. He is very personable and even called my home to check up after the surgery to see how I was doing. Master Sinus Surgeon I've been going to Dr. Setzen for many years, and he has brought me from constant sinus infections to 1-2/year during my peak allergy seasons. He performed sinus surgery on me twice (about 5 years apart) and each time I was ready to go back to work within a week. I did not use the pain medicine prescribed for after the surgery, and had no swelling or black eyes. I've recommended Dr. Setzen to several friends who have had equally great experiences under his care. Dr. Setzen is not quick to recommend surgery. He tried a number of less invasive treatments over about a year before doing the surgeries. I knew he was a superb doctor even before I learned that he is listed in Castle Connolly's book, America's Top Doctors.

I can breathe again Dr. Setzen performed surgery on me for a deviated septum and I am incredibly satisfied with the result. Prior to the surgery, I often suffered with colds and sinus infections which gave me bad headaches but since my surgery, I can breath, have few colds and never have sinus headaches anymore. I was reluctant at first to get the surgery because I had heard from other people that this is a difficult and often unsuccessful surgery. The difference in my case is that the doctor/surgeon was Michael Setzen. He really knows what he is doing and I could not have had a better result. It took about 5 days for me to feel better and be able to return to work and then about 6 weeks more for the total result to kick in where I felt really terrific. I would very highly recommend Dr. Setzen for this surgery.

Finally Breathing again After 40 years of suffering with a deviated septum, and an addiction to nasal sprays, I can finally breathe again. Dr. Setzen successfully performed a complicated surgery; and then he and his staff caringly "held my hand" through the discomforts of the recovery period. Still Good - after 20 years! I had septoplasty performed with Dr. Setzen over 20 years ago. I couldn't breathe well and Dr. Setzen helped my sinuses by aligning my deviated septum. Recently, when my son-in-law had been telling me of his symptoms and problems, I knew he needed to make an appointment with Dr. Setzen. His prior doctors thought his sinus pressure was tooth related or connected to TMJ. Upon visiting Dr. Setzen, he performed Septoplasty and now my son-in-law is breathing much better. As for me, it's been over 20 years and my breathing is still excellent!

What a Relief! I was aware of my polyp and deviated septum for a couple of years. I was advised to undergo a surgery but I decided to treat it first with steroids and allergy medications. On the beginning it was very effective but with time I needed the oral steroids more often, and the effects were not that long lasting. I decided to have a surgery and I chose Dr. Setzen to perform it. Rhinoplasty & Septoplasty Wonderful Results Dr. Setzen did my Septoplasty/Rhinoplasty a few years ago and the results are outstanding. It was scary surgery to embark on as anyone will tell you due to the surgery itself but Dr. Setzen is the right doctor to do it with. It was well worth it. Not only can I breath better but the nose fix was amazing (I originally didn't even plan to do that part)....very natural looking and the Dr. was very open to working with me on what I wanted. I got the nose I wanted not a cookie cutter one. And, the breathing was the best part. My surgery went as planned, Dr. Setzen followed up with me a lot so I never felt alone. His office staff is first class, warm and understanding and always professional. And, best of all the Dr. takes pride in his results. I am very happy with them.
